- New Years' Day Celebrations - January 1st, various locations throughout York
- Holocaust Memorial Day - Friday, 27 January, remembering the atrocities of the Second World War
- Residents Festival - 26 - 27th January, with locals enjoying free and discounted admission to many of York's attractions, while restaurants and shops may also offer discounts during this two-day event
Events in York, February 2013
- Jorvik Viking Festival - early February (Saturday 16th - Sunday 24th February 2013), organised by the York Archaeological Trust and the Jorvik Viking Centre, first held in the mid-1980s and including a costumed procession around the Minster and along Stonegate, as well as a battle reenactment at Bustardthorpe Field. Visitors can also expect the burning of a traditional longboat and evening fireworks
- Heimkoma Concert on 20th February 2013 at York Minster to celebrate Jorvik Viking Festival
- York Fair Trade Market - 25th February to 10th March, with market stalls gathered around Parliament Street, selling all manner of fair-trade goodies
- York Craft Fair at St Williamas College on Saturday Feb 16, 2013 - Sunday February 17, 2013 (Viking Festival week craft & gift fair)

- St Matthew Passion, Bach concert at York Minster on 9th March 2013. York Musical Society Chorus and Orchestra are joined by soloists Paul Smy, Julian Tovey, Laurie Ashworth, Juliette Pochin, Jo Cornwell and Jon Saunders.

- York Festival of Ideas - 13th to 29th June 2013 - with the theme North and South, and will host a range of exciting speakers, concerts, performances and community events. Drawing some 8,000 people, who come to see the exhibitions of photographs and art works, as well as the various talks and discussions, and live music at the university's Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall
- York Carnival Parade - late June / early July, organised by university students and showcasing local talent across the city centre

- York Early Music Festival 2013 - Friday, 5 July 2013 to Saturday, 13 July 2013. The York Early Music Festival is Britain's premier festival of historically informed performance - staged in some of Yorkshire's most beautiful venues including York Minster, Harewood House and the National Centre for Early Music.
- Burton Agnes Jazz and Blues Festival - 5th - 7th July 2013, various jazz concerts staged both within the Elizabethan Hall of Burton Agnes Hall and its landscaped grounds
